Community Care for the Elderly (CCE) is a program for frail elders, age 60 and older. CCE services make it possible for individuals to live independently in their own homes. Eligibility is based, in part, on a client=s ability to perform certain daily tasks essential for independent living, such as meal preparation, bathing, or grooming. |

The purpose of this program is to provide support services for family caregivers and grandparents or older individuals who are relative caregivers. This emphasis will enable the department, through the Area Agency and its providers, to maximize volunteer and community service resources. |

The Emergency Home Energy Assistance program is available for financially eligible people, 60 years of age and older, who are experiencing an energy-related crisis. A crisis may be an impending cut-off of utility services, lack of fuel or wood, a broken heating or cooling system, or unusual hot or cold season energy expenses. A recipient may receive financial assistance twice a year - once during the heating season and again during the cooling season. |

Jointly administered by the Department of Elder Affairs and the Agency for Health Care Administration, the Home and Community Based Services Medicaid Waiver program provides in-home services to frail, severely impaired elderly and disabled people who have been determined to be in need of nursing home level of care. Clients must be assessed by a case manager and be Medicaid eligible. The waiver program assists elders and the disabled to maintain their independence while living at home and avoids or delays the need for more costly institutional care. |

The Foster Grandparent Program recruits, trains and places low-income elders in schools, head start centers and day care centers to serve as tutors with special needs children in Pre-K through the Third Grade. Currently there are over 150 grandparents serving in 45 Pre-K and elementary schools through the Third Grade in Martin, Okeechobee and Palm Beach Counties. |

Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders Program (SHINE) offers comprehensive health insurance counseling to Medicare beneficiaries. SHINE program volunteers are trained to provide information to individuals on Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare supplements, long term care insurance, managed care programs, and related health insurance issues. They assist individuals in decoding medical statements, filing claims and, when necessary, processing appeals. |

This is joint collaborative project between the Corporation for National Service and AARP. A financial incentive may be provided to assist the volunteer with their expenses. AmeriCorps members are eligible to receive an educational award as well. |
