Medicare Fraud & Abuse
The future of Medicare is seriously jeopardized by fraud and abuse. Some health care providers, hospitals, equipment suppliers, home health agencies and others illegally profit by cheating Medicare (and YOU), out of billions of dollars each year. Protect yourself against fraud and abuse by remembering the following tips:
- Guard your Medicare card and number as if it were a credit card.
- Do NOT accept offers of money or gifts to receive Medical services.
- Review your Medicare statements to verify you actually received the services or equipment for which Medicare was billed.
- Report cases in which you or anyone you know may have been victims of fraud. Call the Health Care Financing Administration Medicare Fraud Hotline at:
1-800-HHS-TIPS
(1-800-447-8477)
